Your vault stays organized and ready. When you pass, a trusted family member you've designated reports it through Heirloom. A 7-day review window opens — designed to catch any mistake — during which you can stop the process if it was reported in error. After that window, your vault opens to the people you chose, and Heirloom emails them step-by-step guidance for accessing what you've left.
You assign trusted contacts during setup and choose their tier of access. Inner Circle members (Tier 1) get full read and edit access right away to help you manage your vault. Beneficiaries (Tier 2) know they've been invited but cannot see your vault contents until release — afterward they get full read-only access to the entire vault. Each contact receives an invite by email with a unique code to sign up securely.
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is controlled by authenticated sessions and row-level security. Specifically: TLS 1.3 in transit, AES-256 at rest via AWS KMS, and per-user data isolation enforced in the database — so one account can't read another's data through the application. Sensitive credentials like passwords are additionally encrypted at the application layer.
Yes. The Export Plan feature generates a printable Legacy Plan document covering your vault, final wishes, personal messages, life stories, legacy journal, and trusted circle. Save it as a PDF and share with your attorney, or add your attorney as a trusted contact with view access so they can sign in directly.
